EPDM Commercial Roofing Systems
One of the most popular choices for commercial projects is an Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) roofing system. Durability and ease of installation make EPDM an ideal choice for both new and re-roof low-slope roofing applications. Single-ply EPDM systems are based on a high-performance synthetic rubber compound that protects against all types of weather. This versatile membrane offers a variety of installation options including ballasted, fully adhered, or mechanically attached that deliver superior long-term durability and exhibit exceptional wind uplift resistance.
With the Ballasted System, the EPDM membrane is loose-laid over the roof, sealed at all penetrations and around the perimeter. Adjoining sheets are then overlapped and spliced with tape, forming a continuous watertight membrane. The EPDM membrane is then ballasted with round river-washed stones or paving blocks. The Ballasted System is suitable for any building designed to accommodate the weight of ballast.
Fully Adhered System
Fully Adhered EPDM Roofing System consists of standard or reinforced membrane that is adhered to the insulation board along the roof deck with bonding adhesive. The EPDM membrane is installed over insulation which has been anchored to the roof deck with corrosion-resistant fasteners and plates. The EPDM membrane is fully bonded to the insulation with bonding adhesive. The adjoining sheets are overlapped and spliced with splice tape.
Mechanically Attached System
Mechanically Attached Roofing System utilizes EPDM membrane which is securely attached to the roof deck with plates and fasteners. During installation of the mechanically anchored system, the plates are placed in a specified pattern designated by the manufacturer. The plates are then anchored to the roof deck with fasteners. The Mechanically Attached System is designed for roofs which cannot carry the additional load of a ballasted system and is highly adaptable to a variety of decks, including metal and plywood.
EPDM Rubber Roofing
EPDM is a type of extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane. EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer and is widely used in low-slope commercial roofing projects. The two primary ingredients of EPDM is ethylene and propylene, derived from oil and natural gas. Available in both black and white, the EPDM rubber roofing membrane is sold in a 10ft wide roll in one of two thicknesses, .045 or .060 mill. It is installed onto your commercial roof using either adhesives, fasteners or ballast, eliminating the need to use hot asphalt or an open flame during installation. Seams of the roofing systems are sealed with liquid adhesives or specially formulated tape.
Benefits of EPDM Rubber Roofing:
- Increased flexibility and elasticity to accommodate the expansion and contraction due to temperature changes
- Highly durable with superior strength, performance and longevity
- Reduces water run-off pollution
- Proven hail resistance
- Minimal annual maintenance and easy repair options
- No parting joints, the membrane is cut to your building’s requirements
- Design versatility to fit your building exterior
- Environmentally-friendly with limited environmental impact
